New GTA 6 features
Here is what is new in GTA 6 compared with earlier games.
GTA V had three leads. GTA 6 has two, Jason and Lucia. Rockstar tells the story of both of them together.
Rockstar says GTA 6 has the biggest and widest selection of in-game radio and podcasts yet. Game Informer reports that Leonida has local weather, tropical storms and hurricanes, and more than 170 animal species. It also reports that the map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map.
GTA 6 gameplay features
These are the new gameplay features people ask about most. They come from Rockstar’s Extended Look, a video Rockstar made from in-game footage on PS5. GamesRadar watched it and listed these points.
- You can play as Lucia and Jason together, or set out on your own. In one example, Jason drives while Lucia shoots from the passenger seat.
- Missions include car chases, heists and jobs where you protect people under threat.
- You can steal cars. Rockstar says you pick up tools to get into them.
- The wanted system has six stars. It grows based on what you do and how you escape, and the police can track your face, clothes and car.
- What your character eats can change how they look.
- A character can slow time for a short moment to aim, and weak points are highlighted.
Rockstar has not published a full list of gameplay features. Treat this as a first look, and expect more after launch.
GTA 6 online features
Rockstar’s press release calls GTA 6 a single-player experience. We found no GTA 6 online mode, name or date on Rockstar’s pages. We also found nothing about multiplayer, cross-play or cross-progression.
Digital pre-orders come with one free month of GTA+. Rockstar says GTA+ gives you its Games Library, which includes Grand Theft Auto V and other classic titles.
GTA 6 on PS5 and PS5 Pro
Rockstar’s page says GTA 6 plays best on PlayStation 5. It also links to PlayStation’s own page for more on PlayStation benefits. The Xbox Series X|S version comes out on the same day.

Realistic features in GTA 6
Game Informer says Leonida has local weather. You can stand in the sun and see a storm far away. Puddles stay after rain, and rainbows can appear. Tropical storms and hurricanes are part of the game.
The same report says there are more than 170 animal species, including more than 60 kinds of birds and more than 30 land animals. TweakTown reports that some rare animals can be tracked.
Game Informer also reports that the map is about twice the size of GTA 5’s, with more detail and more buildings you can enter. Rockstar has not described NPC AI or graphics settings on its pages. For the six regions, see our map page.
Radio, music and podcasts
Rockstar’s Music page lets you hear previews of six radio stations. PSU lists them like this.

Rockstar says more stations are coming, from Classic Rock to Talk Radio. GTA VI: The Album has 34 original tracks and comes out on 19 November. Rockstar has also shared six singles from it.
